- There are some things
to consider when making this purchase, though. First of all you have to
ask yourself if your mum is ready for Mothers Day jewellery. Some mums are
still in their child-bearing years when they are given their birthstone
gems as gifts. This might not be the best idea because another little one
may come along.
This very thing happened in my family. My mother had four children when
she was quite young. We were all growing into adulthood and we decided to
buy her Mothers Day gift of jewellery for her special day one year. Her
youngest child was sixteen years old and she had no plans of having
another.
She loved her Mothers Day jewellery gift with one stone representing each
of her children. The design was perfect because she had two December
babies and two August babies. The birthstones were arranged with
alternating colours just in the order that we were born. The gift of the
Mothers Day jewellery was well received but it was a little early.
The following year my mother discovered that she was going to have another
child at the ripe old age of forty one. This news came as a shock to the
entire family. None of us thought about her Mothers Day jewellery until
the following May. We knew that her ring needed to be reworked to fit the
October baby’s birthstone into the design.
Of course, my mother was way too swelled up to wear her ring as it came
time for her to have the baby. The last two months of pregnancy she wore

scheme of getting the ring to the jeweller for the addition. We definitely
didn’t want her to get upset by the notion of losing her prized
possession.
I chose to tell her that I was going to have her Mothers Day jewellery
cleaned and serviced at the jeweller's shop. I took nearly every piece of
fine jewellery she owned so she wouldn’t become suspicious. When I arrived
back with the new and improved jewellery she broke down in tears with
relief that her ring was updated to suit the family. Now she just needed
to wait for the swelling to go down so she could wear it on her finger.
